A place of pubs, antique shops, second hand book shops and tea rooms.
The village is also well known for Uppingham School which is in the centre of town. Some of the Harry Potter filming took place here.

Uppingham is just off the main A47 and is close to Rutland Water. Shopping in this picturesque town enables visitors to once again enjoy personal service and choice. The natural centre of the town is the Market Square and adjoining High Street, which reflects an array of Uppingham’s architectural styles ranging from the early seventeenth century through to the Victorian fountain in the centre. The earliest remains in the church - several half figures of Christ, a saint and two angels - are early thirteenth century and are now housed inside the building, and the impressive fourteenth century church spire rises above the market square.

Near the south side of the church is the original building of Uppingham School which was founded as a grammar school in 1584 by Archdeacon Robert Johnson. For more than 250 years, pupils were taught in this small room. Uppingham School has steadily progressed and expanded, with its buildings and school life now a significant part of the town. The school’s Memorial Hall off High Street West has a magnificent roof and contains such treasures as its original school charter with the great seal of Elizabeth I.
Friday is market day and there have been stall holders coming to the Uppingham Market since the late thirteenth century. The names of the buildings and streets give clues to their history.
