This is the largest man made lake in Europe. You may circumnavigate Rutland water either clockwise or ante-clockwise. There are 2 water sports centres, one on the south shore which is for members only, the other at Whitwell which is open to all. However, the Rutland Sailing club on the south shore is worth visiting if you park outside on the grass and walk through the gate.
No questions are asked in the club house where you can order drinks and food and sit out on the terrace overlooking the water. Rutland is so large that you may think that you are on the coast looking out to sea.

Another popular activity is to hire a cycle and ride right round the reservoir. Cycle Hire
