Hoveringham sailing lakeVisit the yacht club at Hoveringham. Even if you are not intending to sail, just watch the boats from the shore on a fine windy day. At weekends there is much racing activity with plenty of action on the water.
Dinghy's and sailboards are everywhere and there is bird life too.
There are also 2 good pubs in Hoveringham village with food at lunch.
Take the A612 out of Nottingham to the East . Follow signs to Hoveringham, and pass through the village. After a mile turn right at a quarry with large offices down a rough gravel road. After a 100 yards there is a sign to the club, take the gravel road off to the right which leads to the waters edge. The road is private and there is a gate which may be locked, but it usually isn't.

While there, and if with children, visit Ferry Farm which is through the village of Hoveringham on Boat Lane. See the farmyard animals, rare breeds, pets corner, tea room, etc etc.

Another option is to visit Gonalston farm shop. I would be amazed if you will not be tempted to buy some goodies from the exciting range of produce.
