The
Crown at Old Dalby is well out in the country and is very much a
classic, if unusual pub. The food is excellent, but not cheap.
(Les Routiers recommended) There is good and unusual beer served
straight from the cask. You can sit out in sheltered corners in the right weather and there is a large garden area. Play boules if you like. In the winter there are real fires to keep you warm in the lounges and restaurant.
The Martin`s Arms at Colston Bassett is a genuine village pub with good beer and food. (Les Routiers and Good Food guide recommended) Like The Crown at Old Dalby, the food is not cheap. Sit out in the garden in Spring and Summer where the food will be served to you, or sit inside beside the real wood fire.
Don't miss a visit to the
Colston Bassett store
which is just across the road from the pub.
Lots of delicatessen things that are bound to tempt you. While here also
visit the
Old
ruined church.
The Plough at Normanton on Soar is just up the river from the Rose and Crown and offers posher nosh, and it is pleasant in fine weather to sit out overlooking the river and watch the boats plying up and down. However, don`t miss the river trip which only sets out from the Rose and Crown.
