Nottingham Castle  

Walk up the hill over cobbles from the Robin Hood statue and turn left up to the castle. There is a museum and art gallery and good views across the city. The collections are of glass, silver, ceramics and paintings. Beneath the castle are 1000 year old passageways to explore.( Mortimer's Hole Cave Tour) There is also a craft shop , cafe and playground.
This was once one of the greatest castles in the land. For more than 600 years, Nottingham castle saw more than its share of Royal visits, political intrigue, military activity, sieges and murder. All the Kings of England from William the Conqueror to King Henry VIII stayed in the castle.

Opposite the Robin Hood statue there is a small attractive cobbled street. Just round the corner opposite the Robin Hood statue there is also an attractive black and white medieval house which is the Lace Centre. Lace is of course part of Nottingham's rich history.
